5 Steps For A DIY Home Spa Experience

You deserve a break. Rejuvenation means giving your mind and body a chance to reboot. This is why it’s important to have eight hours of good sleep every night. However, there is no reason why you can’t take your rejuvenation to the next level by creating your own personal spa experience right at home. Here are five steps you can put into action to pamper yourself:

Step 1: Go Off the Grid

The key component of a fruitful home spa session is solitude. If you’re living alone, then that is fairly easy to accomplish. On the other hand, if there are kids in the picture it might be time to send them off to day camp. If they get an invitation to a sleepover, then jump on that! Now that you have the house to yourself, you need to officially go off the grid. This means no texting, no Facebook, no mobile device, no TV and no Internet. Period. Once you designate the time for your home spa, you don’t want any interruptions. The world will keep spinning for a few hours without your input!

Step 2: Face Steam

To get in the mood, you might want to start with an herbal steam. Your pores are going to love you for this one. Put a pot of water to boil on the stove. Once it starts bubbling, lower the heat and add in your choice of herbs or essential oils. Rosemary, lavender, chamomile, and peppermint are great choices. Let that goodness steep for five minutes, then turn off the heat. You’ll then want to drape a towel over your head and lean into the steam. Keep your eyes closed with your face about 10 inches over the pot. If it’s too hot, back off. Otherwise, inhale that wonderful aroma. You can actually feel the toxins seep out of your skin.

Step 3: Soak Your Toes

When you’re done with the facial steam, you can use that same aromatic water to soak your aching feet. Pour the water into a basin and dip your toes in. Ahhhh, sweet relief. You can follow up your soak with some nail care and moisturizing. Don’t forget: your feet carry you around everywhere; take some time to treat them to some special attention.

Step 4: The Bath

The bath will be the cornerstone of your spa experience. It’s important that you set the mood. First and foremost, make sure the tub is clean. Remove all the rubber duckies! Next, pick your choice of bath soaps. You can find plenty of choices at your favorite bath store, or you can go old school with Epsom salts. To enhance the bath experience, make sure you add a few aromatherapy type candles around your feet, but not your head! (After all, catching your hair on fire would not make for a nice, relaxing experience.) Put soothing music on and pour a nice glass of wine or tea. Then soak to your heart’s content.

Step 5: The Rub Down

After your steam and your soak, you’ll want to treat your epidermis to some lotion. By now, you probably have a favorite moisturizer. If not, then you can pick some up when you buy the bath soaps. Now you’re ready to wrap yourself in a comfy robe and enjoy the rest of your time. This can include catching up on your book or magazine stack, binge watching Orange Is The New Black, or simply napping.
